The Black-Owned Business Initiative was initially started to generate support for small businesses that needed extra focus during COVID, with a specific focus on black-owned businesses. The original initiative was titled Keeping Small Businesses Open. Post COVID, the initiative was refined and we adopted the Black-Owned Business Initiative to align with our practices and more importantly, be unapologetic about highlighting Black-Owned Businesses. What is not included nor allowed are former business partnerships, loans, or investments on behalf of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. or the Iota Rho Lambda Chapter.
An effort to support public awareness of these businesses. This includes regular highlighting of chosen business across social media, purchasing goods and or services from these businesses, and providing positive feedback on review sites like Google and Yelp.
An organizational effort to utilize goods and services for fraternity events or host joint events with these black-owned businesses.
An effort to improve the business acumen of the fraternity members and community at large with a focus on black-owned businesses and black entrepreneurship.
